HOW TO CHECK ALIGNMENT:

Place a known straight board up against the fence. Lock into place.
Make a cut.
Slide board down a few inches making sure you contact both fences on either side of the blade.
Lock it into place.
Make another cut.

Now take that wedge you just made and measure the width at both ends. They should be exactly the same. If it is.. your saw is properly aligned. If you make a cut afterwards and find that it's cutting at an angle, you're simply not aligning the board properly to the fence.

Right out of the box this thing was nearly ready to go. No adjustments required. Smooth sliding action, smooth pivoting action, angles lock securely into place. This saw can cut 2x12's in a single pass! However, you should always let the saw do its job and go slow or take multiple passes to keep from bogging down the motor. 2 light, quick passes is all it takes to slice right through 2x12's without bogging down the motor. The vacuum attachment port works great with a hºme depot buckethead shop vac (needed a little tape on the hose to make it fit snug). This saw can slice through 2x8's in a single pass. The blade produces nice clean cuts in both green and dry lumber. I sliced a bunch of 12 foot sections of 1x2 furring strips to use as spacers to dry out some lumber and it was consistent and quick. I do wish it had a blade brake but for the $80 i paid I'm not going to complain. I've checked the angles both tilt and rotate against a digital angle finder and actual cut pieces and found them to be pretty much accurate to 1/16th. 22.5 inside and outside were perfect as were the 45's. Great saw for the first time miter owner. Framing an 18'x20' deck using 2x12x20's and 2x8x10's and this thing is plowing right through without any smoke, bogging, or weird smell from the bushings/motor. All around perfect little saw. Even at $150 this saw is definitely worth the money.

Just don't be an idiot and carry the thing in the fully locked position by the trigger handle. Grab it by the base or hinge edge like a smart person.. it's not RIGID or DëWALT quality so you cant get away with carrying it that way without the undue stress working its magic on the alignment.

I agree with other reviewers about the quality of the build...and assembly. Having owned 10 inch Delta, Porter-Cable and Rigid chop/miter saws, this one seems way too poorly designed and assembled.

The 60 tooth, C2 carbide blade is not great deal, but it cuts OK. this is not the fault of the saw. However, the absence of a brake on the motor is scary, making you wait a long time for the spinning to stop before you lift the blade from the cut. Bummer. And it gets worse:

Right out of the box it made a nice true 90 cut. This was a relief... BUT...and this really annoyed me, it did not cut all the way through stock footed to the fence! It left about 1/4 inch uncut! the incomplete manual said the depth adjustment screw was set correctly at the factory and so there would be no need to adjust it. Boy was that a joke. It was not set correctly and I bet there are a lot of workers in the factory laughing at the joke. The diagram does not even identify which screw was at issue and then it names it only as "screw" like about a dozen others in the parts diagram. In fact it is part number 37 in the list and it can only be adjusted with a 3 mm (1/8 inch) allen wrench--which is NOT included. But first you have to release the 10 mm locking washer (no wrench for that either. THEN you can set it, making sure the assembly is all the way tight to the slide (otherwise you risk cutting the lock nut beneath the fence)! This took me about 30 minutes and a lot of cursing at the manual.

Comments about Chicago Electric Power Tools 10 in. Sliding Compound Miter Saw:

I have a regular 10 miter, but was always disappointed that I could not cut wider boards. With this 10" SCM, I can now cut boards up to 12". The fence was a little out of alignment out of the box. One of the bolts holding the fence was way tighten too much. Had to use a Vise grip on the bolt head to loosen it enough for the allen wench to work. the Slide action is very smooth, no binding,
Once the fence was aligned to the blade, the 90 cuts were right on. The build may not be of the highest quality, but for $90, it can do a great job, and provides a lot of value for the price.

Comments about Chicago Electric Power Tools 10 in. Sliding Compound Miter Saw:

Just got the 10" saw. Used it today to build a recycled/ re-purposed furniture project. It works very well and does what it should. No frills, and that is okay, because it costs another $300 for "frills"!
It cuts true, after at little adjustment out of the box, and it is relatively smooth and easy to use.
Have had 2, 12" SCM saws from HF in use for a couple of years. Had a small issue with one but HF resolved it.I have beaten them up and they have worked the next day without fail!
This 10" SCM saw is a whale of a deal no matter how you look at it. It is not high end but it does the same job so what more could you ask?
I like having that $300 in my pocket, and a great SCM saw to work with and you will too!
    A great buy!

Comments about Chicago Electric Power Tools 10 in. Sliding Compound Miter Saw:

Bought this to replace a thirty year old radial arm saw that no longer cut that accurately and because it had a much smaller footprint. I can't compare this to any other brand of miter saw as this is my first one. But having owned it for about two weeks now I can say this saw is as good as my RAS ever was. Only two complaints - I had to clean out the mounting slot on one end of the fence to get it square as it wasn't properly machined to start with and the dust bag collects about 1% of the dust created. I plan to build a dedicated dust collector for this saw. There are plenty of free plans on the Internet . The slide works smoothly and true. Highly recommend this saw.

I have not used one of the expensive brands so I have nothing to compare it with. Out of the box all it required was a slight fence adjustment. Performed well for mu first project. With coupons and discounts it was very inexpensive.

Bought this saw 2 weeks ago and am pleased. I had another brand 10 inch with no slide before but needed to cut wider material. Was easy to assemble but had to align the blade and reset the indicator. Used it several times and am well pleased. The price was good and so is the quality. A 12 speed drill press is my next buy, next month. Harbor freight tools are ok with me as My father and I have been buying them for 25 years or longer.

The miter saw 98199 is fantastic. I was prepared to make adjustments to get everything dead-on, but it was dead-on out of the box, 0 degrees and both 45's are spot on with a square. Couldn't believe it! Maybe I'm just lucky. Dust bag barely helps, but for $90 on sale this is a steal.
